I love split pea soup but the time it takes can feel really overwhelming. I purchased an Instant Pot a couple of weeks ago and have been busy playing ever since. I’m totally obsessed. Here’s my split pea soup recipe.
Split Pea Soup in the Instant Pot
Ingredients
- 10 cups chicken stock
- 20 oz bag of split peas
- 3 medium carrots or the equivalent in carrot slices saves so much time!!
- 2 celery stocks chopped
- 1 medium onion chopped
- 2 tbsp fat I used bacon fat from a recipe I made the night before but olive oil or any other kind of oil will work fine
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp sea salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp chili powder
- Flavor packet that comes with soup if desired (if there was one – mine was just a ham flavoring so I threw it in)
Instructions
- Heat the fat using the Saute function on your Instant Pot.
- Soak peas in a large bowl and cover with water while prepping.
- Saute chopped onions for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until they are translucent.
- Add broth.
- Stir in everything else except peas.
- Drain peas and add to the pot.
- Set to Soup function and adjust the time to 12 minutes.
- Allow natural release.
- Enjoy!
