I love split pea soup but the time it takes can feel really overwhelming.  I purchased an Instant Pot a couple of weeks ago and have been busy playing ever since.  I’m totally obsessed.  Here’s my split pea soup recipe.

  • 10 cups chicken stock
  • 20 oz bag of split peas
  • 3 medium carrots or the equivalent in carrot slices saves so much time!!
  • 2 celery stocks chopped
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 tbsp fat I used bacon fat from a recipe I made the night before but olive oil or any other kind of oil will work fine
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • Flavor packet that comes with soup if desired (if there was one – mine was just a ham flavoring so I threw it in)

  • Heat the fat using the Saute function on your Instant Pot.
  • Soak peas in a large bowl and cover with water while prepping.
  • Saute chopped onions for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until they are translucent.
  • Add broth.
  • Stir in everything else except peas.
  • Drain peas and add to the pot.
  • Set to Soup function and adjust the time to 12 minutes.
  • Allow natural release.
  • Enjoy!
