The Power of Language – If, When, As

Language is so powerful. What we say easily becomes a part of our belief system…that is, if it isn’t already. As I shared in an earlier post, August 24th was my 5 year self-employment anniversary. I spent the afternoon at Noelle Rollins’ new art studio she opened just around the corner from me. What a treat!
She was sharing what she wants to do and what brought her to the place she’s in now and it really touched me. She made a comment about “if” she achieves her dreams. I was quick to jump in with a “when” and she thanked me. As I took all of her beautiful art in…from the glasses I bought to the inspirational magnets and artwork filling the once vacant space, I realized it wasn’t “if” and it wasn’t even “when”…it was “as”.
Because she was already living her dream, one step at a time, as she so eloquently had shared earlier. So, as she lives her dream, I will watch her life continue to unfold, excited to see where it takes her.
And, moving forward, I will no longer use the word “when” to describe things I want in my life. I will use the word “as”.
As I achieve my dreams…
As I experience joy on a daily basis…
As I discover fully who I am and share it freely…
As I find success…
