Language is so powerful. What we say easily becomes a part of our belief system…that is, if it isn’t already. As I shared in an earlier post, August 24th was my 5 year self-employment anniversary. I spent the afternoon at Noelle Rollins’ new art studio she opened just around the corner from me. What a treat!
She was sharing what she wants to do and what brought her to the place she’s in now and it really touched me. She made a comment about “if” she achieves her dreams. I was quick to jump in with a “when” and she thanked me. As I took all of her beautiful art in…from the glasses I bought to the inspirational magnets and artwork filling the once vacant space, I realized it wasn’t “if” and it wasn’t even “when”…it was “as”.
Because she was already living her dream, one step at a time, as she so eloquently had shared earlier. So, as she lives her dream, I will watch her life continue to unfold, excited to see where it takes her.
And, moving forward, I will no longer use the word “when” to describe things I want in my life. I will use the word “as”.
As I achieve my dreams…
As I experience joy on a daily basis…
As I discover fully who I am and share it freely…
As I find success…
Thank you for the reminder of the power of our words Michele. It’s so true. This is going to make me notice what I say and write more. Appreciated very much this blog post. 🙂
So powerful, Michele. It goes along with the I Am…approach to life. I am living my dreams. I am healthy and whole. I am attracting abundance. Thank you for this reminder that we really do have the power to live our dreams now. joy and light, kathy
Wow. Great catch. I never thought of AS for that but it really works! It is all a process of moving forward! I am so looking forward to doing some art this weekend!
Isn’t it awesome! I never thought of AS either but it is so powerful!! I am looking forward to it too!
I love how much you took away from my studio opening, an artists dream come true. I appreciate you calling me out on the “if”. I really love also how you have taken it another step further… “as” I am going to consciously change to saying I am achieving my dream. It’s true. I woke up this morning and as I headed to the studio and have a pile of projects to work on it is true… I am living my dream. I have more parts to my dream that will happen in the future but they are happening AS I continue on this journey. Love it. Thanks so much for all your insight!!!
Your studio opening was a wonderful part of my journey. Seeing others live their dreams is so inspiring and keeps us all moving in the right direction. I am so in awe of the leap of faith you have taken and the beauty of your work. I can’t wait to see where this path leads you!
Love this Michele! Great reminder! Language is such an important tool. The words don’t just say what we want/ need to say to the world, but tells the world what we think/ feel about ourselves.
Such a great point, Carin about how we think and feel! I love that!!
Thank you Michele I just LOVE this, you really get to the heart of the unfolding of life and the magic and importance of enjoying AS we are achieving our dreams. It is not about the When or If, it is about the process! Very insightful article and I can’t wait to hear more.
Language is so powerful and you are so right about it being about the process!
