Even the Biggest Moments Fade Away

Stevie Nicks is one of my favorite artists of all times. She’s practiced a daily ritual of writing every single day since she was 15 years old because, in her words, even the biggest moments fade if you don’t. I’m 49 now and I find myself wishing I’d documented more of my growing up. There were lots of pictures taken – and those definitely tell a story – when I was young but the man who raised me has issues with hording and has not been willing to share many of them. It took years, and was one of the reasons I ended that relationship, to even get those. For years, I was bitter about it and didn’t do much documenting of my own because it was a painful memory of what I felt I was lacking. I can’t go back and change things but do find myself doing a lot more documenting in writing and photography as well as other forms of art now.
