Split Pea Soup in the Instant Pot
Prep time
Cook time
Total time
Recipe type: Soup
Cuisine: American
  • 10 cups chicken stock
  • 20 oz bag of split peas
  • 3 medium carrots or the equivalent in carrot slices (saves so much time!!)
  • 2 celery stocks chopped
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 tbsp fat (I used bacon fat from a recipe I made the night before but olive oil or any other kind of oil will work fine)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp chili powder
  • Flavor packet that comes with soup, if desired (if there was one - mine was just a ham flavoring so I threw it in)
  1. Heat the fat using the Saute function on your Instant Pot.
  2. Soak peas in a large bowl and cover with water while prepping.
  3. Saute chopped onions for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until they are translucent.
  4. Add broth.
  5. Stir in everything else except peas.
  6. Drain peas and add to the pot.
  7. Set to Soup function and adjust the time to 12 minutes.
  8. Allow natural release.
  9. Enjoy!
