Our book of the month over at the Freaky Thinker Book Club is An American Marriage by Tayari Jones. We took recommendations from members and then created a poll to select our read.
This is my second time with this book and I’m excited to see if I gain any new insights or points to ponder. My first time reading this was earlier this year as a part of a book club I participated in during a cruise. It was the first time doing something like that and really opened my eyes to a few things. Some people hated the book and, when digging further, it seemed to be because they felt they couldn’t relate as the book was about people of color. I didn’t (and still don’t) understand that thought process as that would cover a lot of literature available to us but I have some unfortunate and sad (to me) thoughts about why this was uniquely unrelatable to them. In any event, I loved it and am excited to explore it once again.
If you are a freaky thinker (or want to be), join us over on Facebook for some conversation and fun. We’ll be selecting a book for January 2020 (can you believe a new decade is just around the corner??) soon. If you’ve got a suggestion, be sure to let us know.
