Gussy Sews Inspiration Workshop Week #4

I may from time to time offer links to products or services on my blog. If you click those links, and make a purchase from them, I might get some money to take a vacation...and, by take a vacation, I mean hop on my bike and hit the open road {trails around my house} or maybe attend a movie if it's been a good month.  Thank you for contributing to my bliss!

Prompt:  A Day of Fun

Well, wouldn’t you know this would be the one I forget about.  For those that know me, probably not a huge surprise BUT I actually did do a few things for fun this week so I’m going to share them anyway.

Last week, my daughter and I spent the afternoon at a dog park while we babysat my other daughter’s dog.  It was crazy and fun all in one.  So much energy and such cute dogs running every where.  You can view some of these pictures on my Facebook profile.  I can be found under Michele ‘Morton’ Bergh.  Feel free to stop over and send a friend request while you are at it if you feel so guided.

We also went to a movie.  One of my favorite activities and I just don’t get to go often enough.  We went to a newer theater near us which is just beautiful.  They even have a lounge where you can buy a drink if you want one but you can’t get in there unless you are at least 21.  That left us out since she is just 16.  Another time…

We went “extreme” couponing on Wednesday.  Not as extreme as those shows and I don’t have any desire to create a stockpile but we got $200 worth of groceries for $100.  I think 50% off and just things we like and use is a pretty good deal.  It took a long time and we were exhausted when we were done but I know now how to make it happen faster and get some better deals, not that I’m complaining.

We also had lunch at Dino’s Gyros with a Groupon coupon, making our huge lunch just a few dollars!  That’s was awesome.

While we were shopping, my daughter said we should get a ‘V’ slicer.  I looked at her oddly and said, we have one.  We’ve had it for years.  It’s really nice.  If you read my post about kitchens, you might remember we don’t spend a lot of time in there.  Yesterday, she pulled out the slicer and sliced tomatoes and was in love.  Seriously, in love.  Then we made potatoes and she sliced those too.  Today we did it again but this time we actually used the sliced potatoes to make potato chips with garlic salt on them instead of fried potatoes.  They were awesome and it was a lot of fun!

Truly, one of the best things about being self-employed is being able to set my own schedule and take breaks when I want to take breaks.  I am a hard worker and get a lot done but I love being able to take time out to do things like I’ve shared here.  It’s been one of my goals for a long time to be mindful of taking time off from working to do whatever I want.  It’s tough sometimes because I love what I do and it doesn’t always feel like work but it must be done.  A well-rounded life is a wonderful life!

I share your goal – to be mindful of setting aside time for fun. Too often I let my to-do-list dictate my schedule. I need to add “have fun” to that list. I, too, practice waht I call “realistic extreme couponing.” 50% is great!

I love the term “realistic extreme couponing”. I think some of those shows, the people are kind of crazy. I don’t understand who needs that much stuff in their house and why they don’t donate more to a food shelf vs. hanging on to it all. I know some do donate and I hope more do than what they show.
